Trip booked, it’s official!

Let the training begin!

To begin,  the very start of this cycling journey began back in October 2015 where we (Craig, Shirleen, Marchessa and Floyd) visited the Forest of Dean with the kids for an action packed outdoor break in the UK.  It was here that we (Shirleen, Marchessa, Craig and Floyd) climbed onto rented bikes and did a 10 mile exhausting trip with kids in tandem…. and we all LOVED every minute of it despite the sore bums.  Conversations took place about taking up cycling as a hobby and something the kids can also enjoy with us, especially during summer months.

So when Shirleen heard about the Paediatric Low Grade Research project, a cycling challenge seemed the obvious choice to fundraise and support the cause. Taking it abroad without any experience of such an adventure and completely organised by ourselves (no external events organisation involved) just emphasises the spontaneous aspect of this tour and how naive we are!

All of the team are novices (apart from Craig who has vaguely done some mountain biking as a hobby with the boys).  Having approached close friends who know what Theo has been through, they were also keen to help get involved!

so….

Its official!! Flights have been BOOKED so no getting out of it now!

Meet Theo’s team of 7 cyclists plus our support driver:

  • Shirleen
  • Marchessa Hollyfield
  • Craig Smallbone
  • Floyd Mills
  • Nick Morrison
  • Levi Somerville
  • Richard Arkell
  • Denholm Rimple
  • Glen Reynolds – Support Driver

Having news today from The Brain Tumour Chairty that we will be kitted with cycling jerseys to wear is bringing the tangible evidence that we signed up and will soon be upon us.  We are riding 240 miles from Italy to France yikes!

We are finalising the last few actions such as booking the ferry trip for the support vehicle and booking hostel accommodation all we need now is your support to share our story and get as many people involved as possible!

Stay tuned to pics and videos of how we’re getting on with our training and our journey so far 🙂
